Development of an E-Coin System for Managing user's Learning Progress on Different E-Learning Applications

It is important issues to motivate learners using e-learning systems, and we have concentrated on applying gamification to e-learning systems because it can be useful for the continuous learning for many of learners. Based on the concept of gamification, we have concerns of increasing opportunities of praising learners according to learner's efforts and achievement. In addition, we should increase opportunities of competition for stimulating learners each other in a modest manner. Here, by using a metaphor of coin as a gamification function, not actual score or grade in a school, we would like to introduce “weak” competition into e-learning system, so that the stress of being compared each other will be decreased. In this study, we present an e-Coin System for managing user's learning progress on different e-Learning applications. The feature of this system is to use the number of metaphorical coins to evaluate every learning activity of learners, such as learning time and achievement, using different learning applications, for allowing learners to check their states of learning. In addition, easiness of understanding coin value for most people would motivate other people such as friends and family members to praise the learners, so that the learner can be encouraged more. In the experiment, we will confirm the feasibility of our system.
