A Halved Volume Dual-polarized Dipole Antenna

A novel dual polarized antenna which occupies one half the volume of the traditional crossed dipole antenna is firstly developed in this paper. The proposed antenna is composed of two back-to-back folded dipoles. For each dipole, one section of its feeding line and one of the two arms are arranged along the vertical direction, while the reminder section of the feeding line and another dipole arm are arranged along the horizontal direction. The two perpendicular arms of each dipole can generate the current along the vertical and horizontal direction, thus synthesizing a slant polarization. The proposed antenna is designed to work at 3.4 to 3.6 GHz band. Its longitudinal dimension is only 19 mm (0.22λ₀, where λ₀ represents the free-space wavelength at 3.5 GHz), about half of the traditional crossed dipole. The antenna can be a good candidate for Fifth Generation Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna application.
