High-Gain Polarization Reconfigurable Antennas

Two high-gain polarization reconfigurable antennas are proposed in this paper. The proposed high-gain antennas are based on a short backfire antenna (SBA) excited by two crossed slots. By properly switching four PIN diodes mounted on the two crossed slots, a linear polarization reconfigurable antenna and a circular polarization reconfigurable antenna are realized, respectively. Experimental results show that the polarization reconfigurable antennas achieve a gain of 11 dBi with an impedance bandwidth of 20% and an axial ratio bandwidth of 22%.
