Dual Predictive Current Control of Grid Connected Nine-Switch Converter Applied to Induction Generator

Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control appears as a powerful tool for the control of power electronic converters, allowing fast dynamics without the use of voltage modulators. However, converters with many switching possibilities and control goals increase the computational burden and the cost function complexity. This paper proposes a dual Predictive Current Control (PCC-D) for the Nine-Switch Converter (NSC), which decouples the induction generator control from the grid control. Two controllers act alternately and independently. Simulation results show that the PCC-D provided a better grid voltage and current distortion, when compared to the one-vector approach. The main contribution relies on an enumeration of lesser vectors, reducing the computational burden of PCC. Therefore, PCC-D appears as a suitable alternative for NSC control and its application to power generation with variable speed generators.
