Control of Ball and Beam System Using Fuzzy PID Controller

In this paper, a fuzzy PID controller was used for to control a ball and beam system. Fuzzy logic is used to tune the parameters of this PID controller in real time. This gain update occurs whenever there is any disturbance in the system. With this configuration it is aimed to improve the performance of the ball and beam system. This controller has been designed in MATLAB-Simulink environment and then downloaded to the Arduino for testing. The closed loop performances and controller efforts are compared with conventional PID tuned by a Differential Evolution Algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed fuzzy PID controller have responses less oscillating, with a lower overshoot and a lower settling time than PID controller.
