Robustness Analysis of PID-Cuckoo Search Algorithm to Voltage Control in Three Phase of Synchronous Generator with Dynamic Load Condition

In power plant process, a stable generator output voltage is needed. However, if the load on generator changes, it can cause unstable generator output voltage. This condition is not desirable in power plant because it can cause problem in electrical devices. To overcome this problem, an AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) is connected to the generator. In this paper, the AVR has been designed and implemented using PID-Cuckoo Search Algorithm method. This method is applied to adjust a firing angle of three phase semi-converter in order to stabilize the generator output voltage. From some experiment, it was shown the result of PID-CSA control can return generator output voltage response back to 380 Volt point with 0.26% of error. PID-CSA control could generate rise time and settling time faster than PID control. At the initial condition, PID-CSA control could produce 0.28 seconds of rise time and 0.4 seconds of settling time while PID control required 0.45 seconds of rise time and 0.6 seconds of settling time. On the 2 A of load, PID-CSA required settling time 0.2 seconds faster than PID control as well as when the load released condition from 2 A to 0 A, CSA PID required settling time 0.2 seconds faster than PID control.
