The influence of different kinds of music on brainwave signals

Music affects the brain waves, but it is unknown whether all kinds of music do have the same significant impact on brain waves. Therefore, this study compares the brainwaves influenced by classical music and heavy metal music which are “Sonata for Two Pianos in D major, K.448” by Mozart and “Procrastination on the Empty Vessel” by Napalm Death. Using MindWave Mobile, a simple sensor that can display electroencephalogram (EEG), as the main sensing element to the four waves of α, β, θ, and δ. The experiments and data processing were carried out with the experimental prototype of this study. The experimental results confirm that “Sonata for Two Pianos in D major, K.448” can make distinct changes in the α and θ waves, and it also proves that listening to this kind of music can help people to relax the mind and help sleep well. In the β wave, we observed that the subject`s inability to concentrate, when exposed to frequencies contained in the heavy metal music. However, once exposed to the sound frequencies of classical music the subject`s measurement of mental performance drastically improved.
