Conduction and FT-IR spectroscopy to Study the Metal/liquid Contact

This work aims to investigates the effect of the cathode interface on the aging process of transformer oil. The mineral oil is stressed with two different metal electrodes and the electrical response is illustrated through the current field features. For a same range of the applied constraints, the transformer oil behavior is ohmic with one of the used metals and it shows a regime of saturation with the other metal electrodes. The conduction behavior is correlated with FT-IR spectroscopy analyses, a certain modification in the structural composition of the insulating liquid seems to occur when appears the regime of saturation These observations indicate that the insulation aging may be linked to the nature of the used metals in the equipments.
