Detection of Multiple Malicious Nodes Using Entropy for Mitigating the Effect of Denial of Service Attack in VANETs

This paper presents the algorithm for the detection of jamming attack of Denial of Service (DoS) security attacks in VANETs. Since VANETs disseminate life saving information, so all the security attacks need to be detected well in time. DoS attack is one such attack which hinders the availability of the network for the legitimate users. They are not capable for sending critical information well in time to the vehicles in the network. The problem of DoS attack was solved using packet detection algorithms. In the existing packet detection algorithms, single malicious nodes were detected and that node was isolated from the routing network. But in the proposed packet detection algorithm, multiple malicious nodes and irrelevant nodes were detected and all the nodes are isolated from the routing network. All the routing between source and destination was done using Road Side Unit (RSU). The various parameters used for comparison are network throughput, packet delivery ratio, packet loss ratio, false positive rate and end to end delay. The values of these parameters in comparison with the existing algorithms prove the effectiveness of this algorithm.
