Magnetic Pendulum Arrays for ULF Transmission

Ultra Low Frequencies (ULF) have many applications including underwater and underground communications. However, it is a challenge to build portable and efficient antennas at these frequencies since the wavelengths are of the order of kilometers. In this paper we present an electromechanical system called magnetic pendulum array for efficient ULF transmission. We take advantage of the high quality factor and low dissipation in this mechanical system for efficient radiation at these frequencies. We present a proof of concept demonstration of the magnetic pendulum array at 154 Hz by measuring the generated time varying field.
