Characteristic Mode Analysis of Thin Dielectric Objects Using the Impedance Boundary Condition

In this paper, characteristic mode analysis of thin dielectric objects is performed using the impedance boundary condition. An electric field integral equation formulation is provided for the computation. An FR-4 slab is calculated as an example and the results are compared with full-wave solutions. It is shown that this method is fairly accurate and computationally efficient, which may be extended for other surfaces.
