Multi-Port Dual Polarized Integrated Patch Antenna for RF Detection at 5.8 GHz

A multi-port dual-polarized patch antenna is designed and fabricated to detect signals at 5.8GHz. Two inset feeds are used in conjunction with a power combiner to ensure receiving both vertical and horizontal polarizations. The two other sides of the patch are utilized for direct connection to integrated circuit devices with complex input impedance by incorporating inductively coupled feeds. The test chips placed at these ports are RF energy harvesting diodes to showcase an efficient multiport integrated antenna design with minimal impact on the return loss of power combining feed. Good agreement between simulated and measured results is achieved.
