Comparison of Topology Modification for Size-Reduction-Oriented Wideband Antenna Design

This paper investigates various types of geometry modifications aimed at reducing the physical dimensions of the wideband antenna structures. Three types of modifications, pertinent to the ground plane, feed line, and radiator, are considered and compared. The results obtained for a set of benchmark UWB antennas indicate that feed line modifications permit highest miniaturization rates, whereas radiator modifications are of minor importance. For the sake of fair comparison size-reduction-oriented design optimization is performed for each considered antenna structure.
