Wearable device system capable of effectively treating onychomycosis

Summary form only given. Mold infections are common and annoying problems, especially in high temperature and humid environments. Of all the mold skin infections, onychomycosis accounts one third. Onychomycosis is contagious and many risk factors, including athlete's foot, have been identified. Many people who have athlete's foot also develop onychomycosis, as the fungus spreads easily from the skin between the toes to the toenails if the skin infection is not treated appropriately. Onychomycosis not only affects the nail appearance but also can cause paronychia, cellulitis, and pain. The common treatment modality presently is either to put some ointment on the affected toenails or to have antifungal agents. However, unsatisfied ointment concentration and the possible toxicity of antifungal agents lead onychomycosis cure to become a formidable task. Ultraviolet C is proved to be able to inactivate dermatophytes. Therefore, we develop a wearable device by ergonomic experiments, which combines a movable LED UV lamp, a camera, and an APP control, as a promising treatment option for onychomycosis.
