Influence of the Dynamical Mass on the Fuel Consumption of a Plug-In Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle in Simulation

Simulation is a key step during the development phase of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV). However, for a given objective of the simulation, several assumptions are made to determine the appropriate model of a HEV. Neglecting the rotating components mass, in comparison with the static mass of a vehicle, is a classical assumption made. In this paper, the influence of the rotating components mass on the fuel consumption of a plug-in parallel HEV is studied. Three models, related to the mass of the vehicle, are considered. In that aims, Energetic Macroscopic Representation is used to organize the different models of the powertrain. The effects on the fuel consumption are then studied. In fact, the fuel consumption of the studied vehicle is 7% lower when the rotating components mass is neglected.
