A Novel Device for AUV Tracking and Localization

Accurate underwater Iocalization is very important for AUV. Acoustic Iocalization is currently a prevalent method, but its resolution is lower compared to the optical method. This paper proposes a novel device for tracking and locating AUV near the seafloor. The system consists of a base station on the seafloor connected to the ocean observation network and a laser receiving terminal installed under the AUV. It also proposes a bidirectional light source beam coupling tracking and Iocalization method used for this system. In order to verify the basic functions of the device, a simulation and a pool test of the transmitter of the base station is conducted. Part of the tracking and Iocalization functions have been verified and some improvements are to be made in the following work.
