The Influence of New Functional Properties of Active-Adaptive Electrical Networks on the Correctness of Selection and Verification of Conductor Cross-Sections by Existing Methods

Increased intelligence is the main trend of development of the electric grids. The leading role in the process of grids modernization is assigned to active-adaptive grids as a structure that provides reliable links between the electricity generation and the consumer. Improved power transmission technology, the use of modern materials and the development of various network designs significantly increases the complexity of engineering project. Several decades ago, when cross sections methods (conductor economical current density method and method of economic current intervals) were being developed and selected, new functional properties of active-adaptive electrical networks were unknown. These properties call into question the correctness of the choice and verification of conductor cross-sections on the basis of these properties. The study of this issue is provided on the basis of a systematic approach and morphological analysis. The classification of new functional properties of active-adaptive electrical networks is presented in the article. Completed is the assessment of the changes in the network parameters when new technologies are introduced. Evaluated is the correctness of choice and verification of conductor cross sections provided by existing methods. Stressed is the necessity to create new methodology for designing overhead power transmission lines including cross-sections of conductors choosing.
