Planar Core Transformers Analysis for a Power Distribution Network Concept

The compactness and high power density requirements for supplying designs make DC-to-DC converters to become an important part of the power distribution network. In this context, the power distribution network (PDN) components have to convert energy with an increased efficiency. Depending on the design complexity, the number of energy conversion elements will have an important contribution to the overall efficiency powering system. Due to the fact that PDN contain just one net for each voltage rail analyzing the power path magnetic components may be of interest. As a continuation of a previous work, the present article will investigate planar core transformer virtual models as part of PDN. The present study aims to investigate the energy conversion quality by extending the analysis over the switching elements. Using Ansys software simulation tools the behavior of converter hard switching embodiments will be subject to multi frequency solver steps from 400 KHz to1.0 MHz.
