Detection of Event Related Potential for a Cognitive Task

Event related potential (ERPs) are the small voltage changes in the brain representing the responses to external stimuli. ERPs have excellent temporal resolution therefore, it is considered as an accurate measure for the cognitive research. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a non-invasive technique and is most widely used to measure ERPs. The aim of this paper is to measure the ERPs in the cognitive task and detects or determines some of the components of ERPs. One of the ERP components which are found here is P300. P300 was elicited with auditory stimulus. The auditory stimulus was designed according to the oddball paradigm in which the participant detects a less frequent `target' stimulus in a regular series of standard stimuli. This stimulus consists of series of alphabets and digits in which only digit is the target. Two age group people (20±5 years and 40±5 years) participated in this experiment. Then, P300 latency and amplitude are compared between these two age groups.
