Proposal of a Measuring Duration of Water Permeability for Cover Concrete by Surface Water Absorption Test in Poor Curing

This paper proposes a new measuring duration for evaluating the absorption of cover concrete by utilizing a surface water absorption test (SWAT) developed by HOSODA et al. [1]. It was found that there is a huge gap in water absorption resistance p600 of bad quality and poor curing condition of cover concrete in two processes from dry to wet and vice versa at the same moisture content of concrete detected by using the CMEX-II (Kett Electric Laboratory) moisture meter. However, water absorption results over the duration of 120 seconds from the start of measurement showed the equal values in two processes. When conducting SWAT to bad quality and poor curing condition cover concrete, the quality of the cover concrete can be evaluated by using the amount of cumulative water absorption over the duration of 120 seconds from the start of measurement.
