PSO Based Harmonic Current Control in an Islanded Microgrid

Harmonic current control in an islanded microgrid is implemented by modifying the effective line impedance at harmonic frequencies. The existing virtual harmonic impedance techniques avoid overloading of DG (distributed generation) units and improves the voltage quality in the system. However, modifying the effective harmonic impedances can adversely affect the losses in the network. The effect of virtual harmonic impedance on the line losses in an islanded microgrid has not been reported yet. This paper presents a study on the influence of harmonic current control techniques on the line losses of the system and proposes a PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) based technique to minimize the line losses. The proposed technique has been tested using Matlab/Simulink based simulation studies.
