Understanding Systems Thinking from the Perspectives of Experience and Diversity

Most real-life systems are complex and dynamic in nature. Systems thinking offer a way to formulate and solve such problems more effectively. In this study qualitative interviews were conducted with seven domain experts to understand their approach towards solving complex problems. Furthermore, we used 10 years of data about their work experience and diversity in research areas to understand how these two factors could contribute to the development of systems thinking skills. Our results demonstrate that both diversity and experience are key to the development of systems thinking skills in individuals. The roles can even be compensatory but one cannot fully replace the other.
