Electromechanical Transient and Electromagnetic Transient Hybrid Modeling and Simulation of Back to Back MMC-HVDC Project

As the construction of back to back MMC-HVDC project connecting Chongqing and Hubei power grid, the higher requirements has been put forward for large-scale power electronics simulation and modeling technology. The traditional electromagnetic or electromechanical transient simulation program has been unable to meet the requirements of large scale AC / DC construction in China for digital simulation.In order to study the dynamic characteristics of this projects, an electromechanical transient and electromagnetic transient hybrid model of back to back MMC-HVDC project is proposed. We discussed simulation techniques from aspects of modular multilevel converter efficient modeling, control model of MMC-HVDC and hybrid simulation interface selection.Based on the above research, the simulation of the back to back MMC-HVDC project shows better accuracy of the hybrid model, which was realized in the PSD-PSModel electromechanical transient and electromagnetic transient hybrid simulation program. The proposed control model could provide strong theoretical support for analysing the dynamic response of relevant MMC-HVDC project.
