A Study on Marking Skeletal Muscle Fiber in Ultrasonic Images

Skeletal muscle is crucial for human body movement and function. In recent years, B-mode ultrasound imaging has become widely used to assess the function and condition of skeletal muscle. Precisely assessing the properties of skeletal muscle is important for medical diagnoses. However, noise in the ultrasound images complicates the analysis. We propose a three-stage filtering technique to mark muscle fibers in an ultrasound image. Experimental results verify that the method is effective and feasible for marking muscle fibers. This method can potentially be used to analyze many aspects of the skeletal muscle including muscle thickness and pennation angles.
