A New Design of the Near Zero Refractive Index Metamaterials Loaded with the Radome

As a new type of artificial composite material, metamaterial can achieve arbitrary permittivity in principle and has great potential in the field of radome. Based on the metamaterial theory, a new type of near zero refractive index metamaterial (ZRM) is designed and its electromagnetic properties are studied in this paper. And the ZRM radome is integrated with the microstrip antenna designed in the X band. The simulation and measured results show that the gain of antenna increases by 2.75dBi without changing the characteristics of the antenna passband, and the directivity of the antenna is improved.
