A Cost Effective System for Auto Irrigation, Soilmonitoring and Control

Population growth has a huge impact on the agriculture. Various studies have validated that population explosion leads to water scarcity thereby affecting agriculture which uses about 85% of freshwater globally. Our work has considered problems which impact the productivity of farmlands like irrigation and usage of fertilizers. There are a huge number of solutions existing in the market which deploys multiple sensor modules throughout the agricultural field and irrigation is done based on inputs from multiple modules. These solutions are often not affordable to farmers with small agricultural fields. The existing systems don't actually consider any inputs, and cost roughly about Rs.44, 000 for manual control. Our system takes this into consideration, and has come up with developing a single module which can be used for the entire farm. The developed product will consider various parameters like soil moisture, atmospheric temperature, wind velocity and humidity and inputs these to an algorithm. This algorithm responds to these inputs depending on the database which has been collected. The accuracy of this work is hugely dependent on statistical data base which lists out temperature, soil moisture, humidity and wind velocity for different agricultural regions. The algorithm compares this database with the inputs from the module and calculates if water or fertilizers are require for the field. This work will provide automatic irrigation in fields at a lower cost and can also determine crop vs soil type which can impact productivity. The amount of fertilizers used can also be monitored which can lead to lesser chemicals in the produce.
