Breast Imaging with Multiphysics Prior for Improved Tumour Detection and Localization

In this paper, we present a method of combining multiphysics prior information extracted from ultrasound and microwaves to enhance tumour detection and localization. First, a low frequency ultrasound modality is used to extract high resolution structural information of the breast. This information serves as prior information to improve dielectric property estimates using microwave inversion based imaging method. The quantitative breast properties estimated from microwave inversion provide additional useful prior information that can be used with microwave radar based approach for improved target localization. The method is simulated using 2D realistic breast model with two embedded tumours and the results demonstrate desired enhancements.
