Multistatic radar for continuous wind turbine blades inspection: Results from a field study

In this paper, we will present the design and realization of a sparse multistatic radar array with 1Tx and 6Rx for continuous wind turbine blades inspection. The radar has a modularized design and operates in the frequency band from 34 GHz to 36 GHz. The transmitter is placed in the middle of a Y-shaped antenna array so that an optimal point spread function can be achieved. Results of a field study at a 2 MW wind energy plant will be presented, where the radar array is installed at the tower of the wind turbine structure at 95 m above ground. The inspection takes place when the blade is in 6 o'clock position.
