MPPT Based Switched Reluctance Generator Control for a Grid Interactive Wind Energy System

For utilizing the wind energy to its full potential and to ensure the reliable power across critical loads, a Switched Reluctance Generator (SRG) with grid interactive inverter is presented for wind energy conversion systems (WECS). A wind turbine is emulated using Maximum Point Power Tracking (MPPT) algorithm in which tip speed ratio is controlled to obtain the reference speed for SRG. In order to control the SRG, the reference current, turn-on angle and turn-off angle are controlled. A single-phase grid interactive inverter is used which operates in both grid connected (current control) and off-grid (voltage control) modes. Robust power flow control for various cases in on-grid and off-grid modes are presented which depends upon the state of charge (SOC) of generation bus battery.
