Investigation of Electrodynamic Forces in a Flat Induction System

Induction heating is widely used in practice. The evolving electromagnetic and electro-thermal processes allow for the possibility of heating a precisely defined volume in the workpiece at high speed, with low energy consumption. However, large currents generate significant electrodynamic forces between the inductor and the workpiece. On the other hand, due to the specificity of the heating process, the type of inductor used is determined by the geometric shape and the size of the workpiece. In this regard, it is important for practice to evaluate not only the type of inductor in terms of the heating process but also of the direction and magnitude of the evolving electrodynamic forces, which is the object of the present study.
