A Novel Reconfigurable Antenna for UHF RFID Applications

This paper presents the design principle of a novel reconfigurable ultrahigh frequency (UHF) antenna for radio frequency identification (RFID) near-field (NF) and far-field (FF) applications. Right-hand screw rule plays an essential role here. The antenna is comprised of a radiator, which includes an antenna array with four dipoles and a segmented loop, and a reconfigurable feeding network. PIN diodes are utilized to realize the reconfigurable function. The simulated results show the antenna can generate strong magnetic field in NF zone and high FF gain. It provides a new technological way for realistic RFID applications.
