Fault Diagnosis and Tolerance of Dual Three-phase PMSM Drives

In order to improve the reliability of driving system, this paper investigates the fault diagnosis and tolerance of common faults in dual-three phase PMSM drives. A series of diagnostic and tolerant methods have been comprehensively proposed for three types of faults, namely current-sensor fault, open-phase fault and open-switch fault. A three-step method is designed to diagnose the three types of faults simultaneously. A vector space decomposition (VSD) based current estimation method is proposed to achieve fault-tolerant control of current-sensor fault. And both open-phase fault and open-switch fault are tolerated by using a voltage compensation based fault-tolerant control. The experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.
