Resilient Mechanism for Security in Navigation of Service Vehicles and Aircrafts at Airports

At airports, many vehicles provide essential services to the aircrafts parked in the RAMP (Regional Aircraft Movement Parking) area. These service vehicles move around the aircraft in close proximity, and can be source of potential threat to aircraft, if captured/misused by some terrorist groups or may be cause of any mishap. There is no automatic mechanism to verify the authenticity of these service vehicles and is done manually by the ground staff of the airlines. Here, we propose a mechanism for authentication of service vehicles on RAMP area. Here, we purpose an architecture using Wireless Sensor Networks to ensure the security in movement of these service vehicles and aircrafts. Every service vehicle and aircraft is deployed with a sensor and provided with an authentication token by the authentication server at airport and any vehicle/aircraft approaching an aircraft has to authenticate itself using its token and in case the authentication is unsuccessful then an alarm will be raised by the aircraft and the security staff swing into action. The purposed system was analyzed for its security both manually and automatically and could not detect any attack on it. The proposed system can be adopted and the security can be enhanced on RAMP area of airports.
