Slope-Based Histogram Equalization for Real-Time Display of High-Quality Infrared Imagery

A good contrast enhancement (CE) algorithm should not only have good performance but also be computationally efficient for real time display. In this paper, we propose a novel efficient CE algorithm, which applies adaptive thresholding based on the slope obtained from a sorted histogram of the input image. The algorithm allows to control levels of perceived contrast. Compared with state-of-the-art CE algorithms, the proposed algorithm shows highly competitive performance with real-time speed.
