Theory and simulation of electron beam dynamics in the Tri-MeV magnetically immersed diode

Summary form only given. Results from analysis of magnetically immersed diode operation on the Tri-MeV, 3 MeV, 30 kA electron-beam accelerator at Bechtel Nevada are presented. The e-beam diode consists of a needle cathode located on the axis of a cylindrical "can" anode. The cathode radius is sub-millimeter and is immersed in a strong /spl sim/10-30 T solenoidal magnetic field. The anode-cathode (A-K) accelerating gap as measured along the axis from the needle tip is /spl sim/5 cm in length, with the anode/target located at the mid-plane of the solenoid.
