Transient Response of Synchronous Generator to Faults on the Evacuation Overhead Line

Normal operating conditions of synchronous generators are often perturbed by faults occurring on the evacuation overhead power line. Two events occurring on the evacuation overhead power line of Râul Mare Retezat Hydroelectric Power Plant are presented in the paper. It is about a two-phase short circuit and atmospheric discharges respectively. The monitoring was done using a system type Digital Modular Perturbograph (PDM). The first part of the paper is an overview of PDM devices and their characteristics that are described and afterwards the monitoring systems and practical use of PDM solutions are presented. Real cases of monitoring voltages and currents waveforms, their rms values and corresponding angles, are presented in the paper.
