The Performance of FOSMC and Boundary - SMC in Speed Controller and Current Regulator for IFOC-Based Induction Motor Drive

Indirect Field-Oriented Control (IFOC) is the part of vector control method which is suitable for industrial application especially for induction motor (IM) drives. It causes IFOC doesn't need flux sensor which changes the construction of 1M like Direct Field-Oriented Control (DFOC). Unfortunately, the robustness and the stability of the system cannot be guaranteed by IFOC. Sliding Mode Control (SMC) is a controller which can guarantee both of them. Ordinary SMC or First-Order SMC (FOSMC) has disadvantages in chattering phenomenon because of discontinuous control input (sign(.) function). This chattering phenomenon also consumes more power to a standstill the robustness. Chattering phenomenon can be reduced by giving thin boundary layer (Boundary - SMC). Boundary - SMC using saturation function proposed to reduced chattering phenomenon and power consumption. This paper discusses FOSMC and Boundary - SMC applied for speed controller (SC) and direct-current regulator in 10HP 1M. The results show power consumption using Boundary - SMC is lower than FOSMC (real power decreases 21.26
