Economic Studies of the Wind Turbin-Diesel Hybrid Power Generation System (Case Study at: Queen of the South Beach Resort Hotel, Yogyakarta, Indonesia)

The hotel operations require electrical energy and PLN becomes the main supply of electrical energy in Indonesia. But PLN is a power supplier company that can not avoid the disturbance or damage. Diesel generator is a generator that is commonly used as a backup generator at the hotel because it has advantages that are: a fast starting time and does not require a large area. However, the operational costs and the fuel of diesel generators are the greatest among other conventional types of generators. This research proposes wind turbine-diesel hybrid generator as an economical hotel generator replacing the use of diesel generator. An optimization process is required to realize that purpose. This study uses HOMER software to optimize the specification of the generator, especially the amount of wind turbine (WT), inverter and battery to obtain an economical hotel reserve power. The assessment's criteria used are the economic value of the plant: the Net Present Cost (NPC), Cost of Energy (COE) and Renewable Penetration are also calculated to determine the absorption of renewable energy sources by the hotel reserve power. The calculations are divided into two scenarios, scenario 1 and scenario 2. In scenario 1 the energy uses grid components and diesel generator while in scenario 2 energy uses grid components, diesel genertor, inverter, battery and wind turbine. The results showed that the most economical wind turbine-diesel hybrid system generation for the hotel in this study consisted of 1 unit of 200 kw diesel generator, 1 unit of 125 kw inverter, 7 units of 10 kw wind turbine and 1 unit of 50 kw battery. The economic value of wind turbine-diesel hybrid system is more economical than using diesel generator, where NPC system is reduced by Rp 3,470,852,394 or 21.75% compared to using only diesel generator with COE value which also decreased by Rp 570 or 33.17%. The wind turbine-diesel hybrid generation system also produced 81% of renewable energy source of all the total energy generated.
