A Novel Simplified 3-Level SVPWM Modulation Method Based on the Conventional 2-L SVPWM Modulation Method

The 3-Level Modulation Method has been widely studied since the topology is mature and easy to apply to the industrial field. 3-Level three-phase half-bridge inverter has been widely used in the high-voltage and middle-voltage level to reduce the device stress, which is also suit for the application of the high-speed motor driver system due to the small electric parameter and the critical device stress. The space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) has been widely studied in both 2-L and 3-L topology. However, the implementation procedures differ significantly since the number of the space vector vary considerably. In this paper, a novel 3-L SVPWM modulation method is introduced which is based on the traditional 2-L SVPWM modulation method. Therefore, the algorithm changed slightly and only a renovation of the IGBT driver circuit should been done, which is quite easy to achieve. The method is verified by both simulation and experiment. The result reveal that the proposed method is easy to apply and could reduce the current harmonic of the winding of the high-speed PMSM.
