Transactive Mitigation Of Variability In The Output Of 1 MW Photovoltaic Array Using VolttronTM

We describe an experiment whereby the variability of a 1 MW photovoltaic array is minimized by the use of independent agents each acting in its own interest within a transactive market. This transactive market is herein used to minimize the variability of energy flows with respect to the utility interface on the Scott Park Campus of Energy and Innovation at the University of Toledo as part of the Northern Ohio Building-to-Grid Demonstration Project. The VOLTTRON platform developed at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is used to connect an agent representing this array with others representing the building automation systems of eight buildings and a 130 kWh capacity battery energy storage system.
