Solar Potential Analysis in Korea using GIS-based information

The current Korean government is very aggressively promoting the spread of renewable energy under the national slogan `Renewable Energy 3020'. In order to achieve the detailed targets for it, it is necessary to verify in advance the possible amount of power produced by renewable energy sources and select regions more suitable to give priorities to support. In order to provide a solution for this task, we divide the entire country into 1km × 1 km grids and assign rankings at each grid by calculating LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy). Then we sum up all the value of the grids that satisfy the condition “LCOE ≤ SMP (System Marginal Price) + REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) cost” and visualized it as a market potential.
