Service Entrance Hosting Capacity

A large share of DER, particularly residential solar photovoltaics systems, are being connected at the customer's service entrance. While extensive work has been performed to determine hosting capacity upstream of the distribution service transformer, less emphasis has been given on how to consider the impact when DER is interconnected downstream. This paper takes initial steps to determine service entrance hosting capacity. The hosting capacity of three real North American residential services is analyzed. The underlying sensitivities are examined in detail. Moreover, the impact of the individual customer load variability and split-phase transformer unbalance is studied.
