Modeling and Validation of the Basic EMC Filter at Different Simulation Levels

In this paper several methodologies for the modelling of EMC filter are presented. Modeling of the filter can be done at the circuit level or at 3D field level with full-wave Method of Moments (MoM). On first step RF components of filter are modeled based on calculated or measured s-parameters. Circuit level model can be enhanced by including stray RLC parameters of the PCB traces calculated with 3D quasi-static/quasi-magnetic approach. Filter attenuation is calculated for common and differential modes using different methods in the frequency range from 10 kHz up to 50 MHz and are compared with measurements.
