A Leaky-Wave Antenna with Programmable Beam Scanning

A leaky-wave antenna working 9.1GHz with programmable beam scanning is designed and presented. The leaky-wave antenna is orthogonally arranged and composed of sixteen metallic J-shaped units in the composite right-left handed (CRLH) formation to obtain tunable metamaterial properties programmable radiation patterns. We change the radiation patterns by controlling gap's state with open or close, thereby the phase constant ß is tuned from negative to positive in both orthogonally direction, leading to programmable scanning beams in the half-sphere.
