Thermo-Electric Model of the Power Battery and Module Based on AMESim

The main reasons restricting the development of electric vehicles is safety and mileage, which is decided by safety, capacity and cycle life of power battery. The safety and performance of power battery are greatly affected by temperature. It is important to have a simple but accurate model to predict the thermal behavior of batteries under a variety of operating conditions in the initial design of battery thermal management system. This paper presents a thermal-electric model for a 37Ah lithium battery and module using AMESim. It is shown that the model can accurately predict the temperature and voltage of the cell in a wide range of operating conditions. Good agreement with the measured temperature development has been achieved. It is simple and quick to use the model when lack of CAD data. This model can be used for the scale-up of large size batteries and battery packs.
