Development of EEG Data Acquisition System Based on FPGA Zedboard

An Electroencephalography (EEG) data acquisition system based on FPGA Zedboard (Diligent, USA) has been implemented using ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) front-end ADS1299FE (Texas Instrument, USA). The EEG instrument is a device used to measure the electrical brain activities on the scalp, and the voltage potential of EEG signal around 0.5-100μV with frequency 0.5 - 40 Hz. The data acquisition system has been configured with 2-chips ADS1299 Daisy-Chain mode and processing based on Zedboard FPGA. The data acquisition system was used with FPGA, because that is very powerful speed to acquire the ADC devices. The result of data acquisition system has been sent to PC (Personal Computer) and also displayed into the graphic format of EEG data. The EEG instrument has been successfully validated using EEG Simulator (NETECH Mini-Sim EEG) with frequency 2Hz, 5Hz, and also voltage tested in 30 uV, 50 uV and 100 uV. The validation result at 2Hz was obtained measurement with a maximum deviation average of 0.15uV, therefore frequency of 5Hz with a maximum deviation average of 0.18uV.
