Structural Phase Transformations in Titanium Alloy Ti-6Al-4V at Low-Temperature Ion Nitriding

The paper presents the results of the effect of low-temperature ion nitriding modes on the structure and properties of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy. The microhardness distribution curves along the depth of a modified layer at various temperatures and holding time were obtained. In the course of the study it was found that the depth of the nitrided layer depends on the processing temperature. The results of X-ray structural analysis in the surface layer of samples after low-temperature ion nitriding were presented. It was established that the concentration of TiN ( δ phase) increases when the temperature and the nitriding holding time is increased.
