The Process of Improving the Quality of Teaching - A Case Study

The paper discusses the specific steps that have been taken at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Iceland to assess its quality of teaching, the means taken to instigate improvements, and the successive results and lessons drawn from the process. An extensive self-review of the Faculty was carried out, where information from student interviews, teaching surveys and other sources of data were used to map the overall state of teaching quality, the strengths and the weaknesses. A comprehensive list of improvement tasks was compiled for follow-up actions, and these tasks were also put in perspective with the overall quality improvement processes of the University. In addition to the successes, the paper outlines which items turned out to be more difficult to follow up on and improve, the reasons for this and the continuation of this work.
