Mitigation of Current Harmonics Using Shunt Active Power Filter

Use of power electronic devices and semiconductor technology has increased the uses of nonlinear loads. Arc furnace adjustable speed drives, converters, PWM modulated drives are some of the nonlinear loads that play major role in declining the power quality by injecting the harmonics in power supply. This paper represents a control strategy for a 3-ph shunt active power filter is proposed. SAPF acts as VSI in parallel with the load to mitigate the current harmonics by injecting equal and opposite harmonic contents at the point of common coupling. Simulation of SAPF implemented on generalized instantaneous power theory is done with the MATLAB SIMULINK. The simulation shows outputs and FFT analysis of with filter and without filter.
