Ultrafast Semiconductor Lasers: Pulse Generation and Stabilization

Progress in the generation and stabilization of optical pulse trains of edge-emitting passively mode-locked (PML) quantum dot (QD) and quantum well (QW) lasers and self-mode locked (SML) QD lasers is addressed. The mechanism responsible for the timing phase noise (TPN) reduction and repetition rate (RR) agility in PML QD and QW lasers and in SML QD lasers by time-delayed feedback (FB) and synchronization is investigated by a simple time-domain (TD) model.
